Field notes from Sor
What the merchant can tell you about travelling here.
Overview
The Gerudo highlands are rock and wind more than anything else — high, dry, exposed country that punishes anyone moving through it carelessly. Lightning finds the high ground here more often than seems fair. It's a serious region, not a scenic one, though it has its moments.
Conditions
Dry and cold at elevation, hot lower down near the desert border. Storms build fast over the highlands and bring lightning that behaves like it's looking for something metal to hit. Watch the sky more than you watch the trail.
Hazards
Lightning is the real danger — strip anything metal off your back the moment a storm starts building, weapon, shield, all of it. There's an icy patch on the higher ground too, unexpectedly slick underfoot. Respect both and you'll be fine.
Useful finds
Rugged herbs that don't mind the wind, and enough voltfruit scattered through the rocks to keep the lightning risk manageable if you're carrying any at all. Not a rich foraging region, but a dependable one.
Route notes
Move through in clear weather if you can choose your timing at all — check the sky at the last stable before committing. Once a storm starts building over the highlands, the sensible move is to wait it out, not push through.
Merchant story
I got caught in a lightning storm out here early on, fully armed, and learned exactly why the old warnings exist in about four very loud seconds. Nothing worse than a scare and a ringing pair of ears, but I've told that story to every apprentice traveller since. Take the sky seriously.
