Destination
Eldin
Eldin means the mountain, and the mountain means fire — an active volcano with a city built into its side by people who are, frankly, tougher than I am about heat. Dramatic, dangerous, and one of the more memorable regions to actually see up close.

Before you pack
Read these before you take the pack.
- Conditions
- Hot near the mountain, properly hot the closer you get, with ash in the air and the ground occasionally reminding you it's sitting on top of a volcano. Fire resistance gear or food is essential this close to the peak, not a suggestion.
- Hazards
- Loose rockfall, exposed lava flows, and grass that catches fire faster than you'd like near the mountain's base. A few fire-adapted creatures make the slopes their own — treat every open flame near dry grass as a hazard, including your own torch.
- Useful finds
- Spicy peppers grow well in the warm ground here, along with sunshrooms near anything that stays lit. The mountain city itself trades in goods you genuinely cannot get anywhere else — their spice work alone is worth the trip.

Route notes
Stick to the marked paths up the mountain and sort your heat resistance before you start climbing, not partway through. The lower canyon is manageable without special gear; the upper slopes are not.
Merchant story
I traded route notes for a proper taste of local spice on my first real visit up the mountain and have been quietly obsessed ever since — half my pantry's flavour comes from what I learned to appreciate on that one trip. Pip refuses to eat anything that spicy and makes sure I know it every single time.
